Virgin Islands Short Story Writing Contest

 St. Croix, VI ———– Cultural Conquest Association Inc. (CCA) is an organization composed of a group of young professionals eager to make a difference in this community by empowering the youth of the Virgin Islands with knowledge. One of the organization’s priorities is keeping the local culture alive by reigniting the fire of Virgin Islands pride and creating an exhilarating and educational experience.

CCA will be sponsoring a writing contest as a means to preserve and promote Virgin Islands culture. To participate, entrants must create an original short story based in the Virgin Islands and include at least one cultural aspect (eg. Local food, historic site, historical event, etc). Submit your short story and registration form to Cultural Conquest, P.O. Box 991, Christiansted, VI 00821 or culturalconquestvi@gmail.com.   The short story must be at least 1500 words; MLA format, double spaced, 12-pt Times New Roman. The short story will be judged on structure, clarity, content references and creativity. The contest is open to all students, grades 4 through 12 in the St. Croix, St. Thomas/St. John District.

The contest deadline is November 30, 2014. Entries that do not meet the postmarked deadline of November 30, 2014will be disqualified.  All short stories must be accompanied by a registration form.

The winner in the Lower School division (grades 4-8) will receive a one year subscription to IXL.com and a hardcover copy of their story. The winner in the Upper School division (grades 9-12) will receive a digital telescope and a hardcover copy of their story.
