(St. Thomas, USVI) – The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (“VIWMA” or “Authority”) Preserving Paradise team and contractors are working diligently to address overflowing manholes on Nadir road in the vicinity of the Clinton Phipps Racetrack. The Authority advises residents to avoid standing water and overflow in the impacted area.
Normal flow of the sewer line has been restricted due to a blockage caused by grease and debris, resulting in the overflow. Contractors began cleaning the area and performing corrective action as of Wednesday, July 15. The repairs are expected to be completed within two weeks. The motoring public is advised to traverse the area with caution or consider the use of alternate routes as traffic flow may be reduced to one lane.
The VIWMA Preserving Paradise Team continues to work diligently to provide reliable services to the public and would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation.

V.I. FIRE SERVICE CAUTIONS AGAINST POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARDS AT LOCAL SERVICE STATIONS
V.I. Fire Service Director Daryl George wishes to caution local service station owners, employees and the general public against potential fire hazards and unsafe practices recently observed at several local service stations.
Fuel station owners, employees, and the general public are reminded that smoking materials, including matches and lighters, may not be used within 20 feet (6 meters) of any area used for fueling, servicing fuel systems for internal combustion engines, or receiving or dispensing of Class 1 liquid. Class 1 liquids are defined as any liquid having a flash point of less than one hundred degrees Fahrenheit (1000 F) and include gasoline, naphtha and associated petroleum products. Gas station owners are required, by law, to post conspicuous and legible signs prohibiting smoking within the sight of the customer being served.
The motors/engines of all equipment being fueled must be shut off during the fueling operation; except for emergency generators or pumps, where continuing operation is essential. Gas pumps and stations shall cease fuel distribution while gasoline tankers are refilling service station tanks. Gasoline produces vapors that are easily ignitable. Additionally, gasoline vapor is heavier than air and consequentially spreads low at ground level. Potentially dangerous conditions are created when gasoline tankers are refilling the station’s tanks while customers are simultaneously permitted to pump gas within the proximity of varied heat sources such as engines and electrical parts.
In order to ensure the continued safety of service station employees, customers and the general public, it is the responsibility of each service station to make sure that the above orders are properly complied with at all times.
Anyone found in violation of this order shall be subject to a fine of not more than $500.00 or imprisoned not more than one year or both.
Cam Newton, and New England Patriots Agree to 1-Year, ‘Incentive-Laden’ Contract
Cam Newton will get a fresh start after reportedly agreeing to a deal with the New England Patriots.
According to ESPN ,Newton and New England settled on a “one-year, incentive-laden” contract.
The Carolina Panthers previously released the quarterback after nine seasons.
Shoulder and foot injuries have limited the 31-year-old over the past year, holding him to only two starts in the Panthers’ last 18 games.
However, he has been a difference-maker when healthy with at least 3,000 passing yards and 300 rushing yards each season from 2011 to 2018. He won the NFL MVP award in 2015 when he threw a career-high 35 touchdown passes while leading the Panthers to a 15-1 record and a trip to the Super Bowl.
Though the Panthers have been up and down as a team since then, Newton has continued to produce at a high level, completing a personal-best 67.9 percent of his passes over 14 games in 2018. His 94.2 quarterback rating that season was the second-highest of his career, while he also added 488 rushing yards and four scores on the ground.
Carolina decided to move on after his injury-filled 2019, signing Teddy Bridgewater to take over as the starter under new coach Matt Rhule.
Newton remained a free agent through the 2020 NFL draft, with many speculating he was seeking a clear chance to start with a new team. NFL Network reported in May the quarterback was willing to take a backup role in the right situation.
His patience has finally led him to a new job as he tries to re-establish himself as a top-level player in this league while extending his career.
The signing gives New England an adequate replacement for Tom Brady after the future Hall of Famer signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a free agent.
If healthy, Newton could provide the Patriots with a new dimension offensively with his running ability, which the team didn’t get from Brady. This could be what’s needed to keep the squad in playoff contention after 11 straight AFC East division titles.
Head coach Bill Belichick should also get the most out of the veteran, as he did with Matt Cassel, Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett when they filled in for Brady in the past
It seemed the squad was ready to stick with Jarrett Stidham after not drafting a quarterback, but the latest addition could help the Patriots compete in 2020 and possibly beyond.
Nets’ DeAndre Jordan And Spencer Dinwiddie Tested Positive for COVID-19, Will Miss NBA Restart
Brooklyn Nets center DeAndre Jordan announced Monday he won’t be traveling to Orlando , Florida, for the resumption of the 2019-20 NBA season after he tested positive for COVID-19
Earlier in the day, Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie confirmed to The Athletic’s Shams Charania he had tested positive. Dinwiddie said he was still unsure whether he’d be able to travel with his teammates to Walt Disney World Resort and participate in the resumed season.
Wilson Chandler also told Malika Andrews of ESPN he is opting out of the restart, saying “the health and well-being of my family has to come first.”
The Nets were already going to be without Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant. Irving underwent season-ending shoulder surgery in March, while Durant confirmed to The Undefeated’s Marc J. Spears he has no intention of suiting up this year. Durant was also among four Nets players who tested positive for the coronavirus and were subsequently declared symptom-free in April.
The seventh-seeded Nets haven’t qualified for the playoffs yet. The Washington Wizards are six games back, sitting in ninth place with eight seeding games to determine the postseason fields for the respective conferences.
With so many veterans now unavailable, Brooklyn could be in danger of falling out of the top eight.
