“It is evident that we must all prepare ourselves for the transformation of our social, cultural and economic norms of our daily lives. The declared Coronavirus Global Pandemic requires of all of us to make the necessary changes that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and local and federal health professionals have recommended,” Senate Vice-President Myron D. Jackson said. “The days ahead of us are going to be challenging and require all of us to coordinate all our efforts to be prepared, to the best of our abilities, to combat the devastating impact this will have on our beloved territory, people, nation and region.”
“We have the responsibility to do all we must to protect the health and lives of residents and loved ones. In this regard, I suggested to the Governor on Wednesday that a cancellation of our 2020 Virgin Islands Carnival should be considered given the extreme health risks and the state of affairs. The way we socialize as a community requires restrictions to save lives,” Sen. Jackson said. “I encourage our port officials, churches, synagogues, mosques, temples, organizations, societies, restaurants, schools, nurseries, supermarkets, and businesses to implement the CDC recommended protocol for social interaction, sanitation and preventive measures.”
“This is a historic moment for the world not seen since the Spanish Flu of 1918 -1920. This too shall pass,” Sen. Jackson concluded. “May God give us the wisdom, fortitude and strength to do what is right and sustain us during this crisis.”
